Mr. J. Arthur Waddington has for some 27 years attend vessels to advise
on salvage operations,
towage projects, vessel purchases, and owners maintenance and refit work. He
has advised both Hull
and Machinery and P & I Underwriters on various matters and specializes
in the survey of vessels
damaged due to maritime incidents and repair work on such vessels.
Mr. Waddington has an Ordinary National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
issued in Liverpool,
with a Marine Endorsement issued in Glasgow. His Bachelor of Science Engineering
degree was issued
by the Council for National Academic Awards in the United Kingdom.
For 23 years Mr. Waddington was a staff surveyor with the Salvage Association
in various European and
U.S. offices. In this capacity he surveyed a number of vessels requiring massive
steelwork renewals
and/or complete major engine rebuilding following maritime incidents. The surveys
effected have
included laden vessels in distress where the presence of cargo has added to
the complexity of the salvage
and/or repair operation.
After resigning from the SA in 2000, Mr. Waddington did similar work for Woodbridge
Marine as their
Director of Engineering, before setting up as an independent surveyor based
in the San Francisco Bay
area.
Prior launching out into the sea of marine surveying Mr. Waddington was an
engineer in charge of the
running and maintenance of an ethanol and animal feed production plant: and
before this he served as a
seagoing engineer on both steam and diesel engined vessels in the ranks from
cadet to second engineer
with Houlder Bros. and Elders & Fyffes.
Mr. Waddington is a Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineers, a Chartered
Engineer
and member of the San Francisco Port Engineers Society.
